Frequently Asked Questions
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis is often described as the feeling of being gently suspended between wakefulness and sleep. Many clients find the experience deeply relaxing and surprisingly enjoyable. While everyone’s experience of hypnosis is unique, it’s also a very familiar state—one we naturally enter every day. You may notice it just before falling asleep at night, or when you’re so absorbed in something familiar or engaging that the outside world fades and the mind becomes calm and focused.

Does hypnosis mean I lose control?
Hypnosis is not mind control; it’s a collaborative process. My role is to guide and support, while you remain in control of the journey—like a navigator suggesting a path while you decide where to go. If a direction doesn’t suit you, you simply choose another.

What is Strategic Psychotherapy?
Strategic Psychotherapy—often referred to as brief therapy—focuses on how language reflects underlying thought patterns. By carefully listening to and working with language, cognitive distortions can be identified and gently addressed, particularly while in a hypnotic state where the mind is more receptive to change. Through targeted, thoughtful questioning, clients are supported to make their own insights and realisations. This approach helps you access your existing strengths, develop practical skills, and move through challenges with greater confidence and clarity.

How many sessions will I need?
Most concerns are typically supported over three to six sessions. While many people have been carrying their challenges for a long time, meaningful change often unfolds over more than one session. It’s common for clients to notice significant relief after the first session, however allowing time helps ensure changes are not only felt, but integrated and long-lasting. My aim is to support you to feel better and function better in everyday life.

Can everyone be hypnotised?
Yes. Everyone can benefit from hypnosis, even if they don’t experience what feels like a “deep” trance. Some people describe feeling very absorbed or “far away,” while others remain more aware of their surroundings—both experiences are completely normal and equally effective. Depth of trance does not determine results.
It’s common to believe that being strong-minded makes hypnosis impossible, however hypnotic states are a natural part of everyday life. Because these states occur naturally for everyone, hypnosis can be accessed by anyone willing to engage in the process.
